Norwin’s certified school nurse has been chosen as the Southwest Region School Nurse of Excellence by a statewide school nursing organization.

Anita Miklos, who has been a school nurse at Norwin since 1999, was selected for the honor recently by the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners.

The person chosen as the regional Nurse of Excellence must demonstrate evidence of excellence in school nursing practice based on the School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, the organization said on its website.

It is not the first time Miklos has received state recognition for her work. She won a student services award of excellence in 2023 at the annual Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Service Administrators convention.

“Anita’s tireless efforts in ensuring the health and well-being of our school community, as well as the exceptional commitment to our district over the years, truly exemplify the qualities of a top-notch certified school nurse,” said Norwin Superintendent Jeff Taylor.

The award is a well-deserved honor and a reflection of Miklos’ outstanding service to Norwin, Taylor added.

“Anita’s professionalism, compassion, and expertise have positively impacted countless lives,” Taylor said in a statement.

Miklos, who started at Norwin as a health room aide and then took the job as certified school nurse, received the award at the recent school nurses association’s conference in Hershey.

Miklos also serves as health services curriculum leader, trains new substitute nurses, coordinates nurse schedules and serves on the district’s Safe Schools Committee. She also has helped to coordinate the district-wide clothing drive and stocking caring closets in each of her buildings.

She was named the Outstanding Educator award for Sheridan Terrace Elementary in 2022.
