This week's Golden Apple goes to Michelle Vento, a school nurse at Thornton Elementary School in Johnston.

Vento nominated by Natalie Carey and her grandmother, Melanie Turner Branca.

They wrote that during the pandemic, Vento was keeping the children as safe and healthy as possible and calming their fears, too.

"She’s the best nurse in the school and she helps us when we need it," said Carey.

With 330 students at Thornton Elementary, plus staff and parents, this beloved school nurse has been a superhero during the pandemic and Johnston School Superintendent Dr. Bernard DiLullo Jr. has noticed.

"You've been a rock, especially last year and taking care of our kids in a very large school," said DiLullo.

"We all do the best that we can together," said Vento.

And nurse Vento has everyone supporting her: "We love you, nurse Vento! Yay!"
