Karen is the Hyman Fine elementary school nurse and my children have had the honor of having her as their school nurse over the last eight years. She exemplifies what a school nurse should be. She is compassionate, caring, knowledgeable and makes the kids feel heard, safe and cared for when away from their parent. Her communication to the parents is helpful and resourceful. She is easy to communicate with and works with you to come up with the best medical plan for your child. Her smile and warm personality makes a difference to the students when they are sick and scared. 7 years later I have the privilege of working in the district with her as a fellow school nurse. Being the helpful, thoughtful person she is, she was the first to let me know to reach out to her anytime with questions. She is a knowledgeable resource of school nurse information, always willing to assist me in my new role as a school nurse.
