Hello, my name is Barbara A. Gibbs. I am writing to nominate my friend Roselaine Koech for this award. I met Ms. Koech several years ago after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti; We were a part of the group of nurses who went to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010 through the Paul Farmer organization. Ms. Koech is currently employed at the Adult Technical Academy at 20 Church Street, Boston, MA 02116. She has been a school nurse for 24 years and should be recognized for her many years of service in the Boston Public School system. Through her tenure as a school nurse, Roselaine has initiated many initiatives that addressed the health needs of underserved and at-risk students, from health literacy programs for high school students to community projects. GRANTS Boston Teachers’ Union and Boston Public Schools, “Teacher Leadership Grant”, $15,000 June 2018 National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM NER), $8,000 June 2015 Alliance for Healthier Generation, “Wellness Grant”, $2,000 September 2009 Children’s Hospital, “Advocacy Fund”, $5,000 January 2002 Clipper Foundation, $5,000 January 2004 Johnson & Johnson, “School Health Leadership”, $1,500 Founded Healthy Connection in 2002, a peer-mentoring program that provided support to new Immigrant high school students during the difficult times of transition into a new school and a new Country Founded Nurses in Your Corner in 2012, a community outreach initiative focused on connecting health and academics through engaging with students and families in their communities Created Stay Well in 2015, a health literacy program that provided essential health literacy skills to new immigrant high school students Worked in collaboration with colleagues and various community partners to organize Community Health Fairs to help bring health information to underserved communities, focusing on parents with school-age children, connecting health to academics.
