Nominated by Stephen Bushee
I realize that this nomination is past the 2:00pm deadline and I apologize for this delay. I would like to nominate Erin Wallace the school nurse at Lexington Christian Academy for the "SuperStar School Nurse" award. Erin is an amazing, caring health provider to all the students at LCA. She provides just the right care for every situation...whether it's a middle school student who is learning how to be their own person, deal with things on their own and navigate the drama of 7th grade, or a senior who has health issues that may not be getting the appropriate attention and care at home. I think that most school nurses have that necessary level of compassion when needed. What makes Erin special is that she has true compassion and applies this when needed, but she is also smart enough to realize when a student needs to be challenged with some 'tough love' and requires a bit of a push in the right direction. I've witnessed Erin simply giving a young female student a hug to try to calm her and stop her tears and I've witnessed her tell a 11th grader that he needs to stop coming to the nurses office every day with a new ailment, coincidentally always occurring during his math class!!!! They don't teach you this in nursing school... Like many secondary school educators, Erin has a family of her own and this definitely helps her relate to all her students. She is empathetic, and her devotion to the health and well being of the student body at Lexington Christian is unflagging. Her work ethic is unmatched and she is a tremendous role model for the student as well at the other faculty and staff at the school Erin is a true gem and is most deserving of the SuperStar School Nurse Award...I hope that the selection committee will give this nomination it's full attention, despite me providing this several hours late. Thank you for your consideration!!!
